No. How many times are you going to ask this? At my large dept., the ratio is 90% male on desk jobs. Admit it-we are just as tough or tougher than men. Get over it.
Is your visa a work permit? If not, you would need to get a work permit and an employer to sponsor you.
You may want to check the municipal websites of a number of cities in Canada. Many of them will have employment vacancies listed on their sites, and you might find some information there. Here are a few links that may help. Best of luck with your plans.
Your correct saying its because of the collage kids being in town, etc…Wait till they have to go back to school and you'll have a much better chance of getting a job.I believe they start school in Sept. like everybody else.Good luck )
Ideally you are already thinking about starting your own business. What about a non-profit? As long as you want to do that and set up a bus. plan for it you have always an option because… YOU are the solution. Get ANY job to support yourself in the evenings and volunteer or intern during the day at the jobs you want. This will get you experience and insight into what it is really like to work in your field. Good grades and all the trimmings will help you stand out, but EXPERIENCE is what they look for.
What scarcity of jobs, the economy is just booming, just ask any repuglican, you are one of them to lazy to go to work like they say. Isn't it a shame that in America, in a time of war that there are people that can't find jobs. It is supply side economics that is causing it. Give a tax break to a rich person he will eat for a day but give anything to the poor and it is because they are no good…..
you may cut out some opportunities, but with the impending budget crisis faced by urban and suburban areas, there will be a need for urban planners. You might have to move to 'smallsburg' for a good job, but if relocating is not an issue, then I would say that it is a small, but needed field.
I don't know too much about this particular area, but I have a few questions you might want to ask yourself. Who does community planning? Probably city government, community service organizations, those jobs would not pay well but may be rewarding. There is a chance that some large development firms may employ community planners.
Go to careerbuilder or monster and search for community planner type jobs and see how many results there are and what the requirements are.
As far as your loans go, ask your lender for a forbearance, instead of a deferrment, for financial harship while you are looking for a job.
damn it. i wanted to study that. I heard theres lots of jobs, which college r u in?
dang cal poly, i applied there, somehow they just disregard my application, never heard from them until college was about to start. I was also going to Ball State too, heard they've got good urban planning program. Anyways dude, could you email like what you guys been learning and stuff? What should I be taking right now if I want to transfer to a urban planning school?
by the way, good luck on the job search. I heard from my HS counselors that it is very easy to get a job once you're out of Cal Poly. A lot of opportunities especially for Urban Planning. You might be working for private firms, however, with mediocre wage. Some people go on with M. Urban planning or M. Architecture.
I think all of the options you listed have a part in the increased urban violence during the summertime. The main ones however would have to be Lack of community resources and/or activities which creates Boredom (too much time and nothing to do). A Dysfunctional family will turn out dejected children seeking attention and an outlet for their frustration. And poor leadership from community groups and organizations plays a role as well.
Heat and humidity and financial issues are stresses that make things worse over the summer months. The same would probably happen during the cooler months, but it is too uncomfortable to be out in the cold causing trouble.
It's sad really. Youth need direction and guidance. Some affordable or free community resources and activities would and could make a huge difference in the lives of high risk children. Lead them on the right path from when they are young and you will stand a chance of "saving" more.

Hi it probably depends on what you what from that "better future".
Both are going to require a LOT of time in school.
Urban planners are usually hired by governments though & although are paid a lot –there aren't many of them.
Lawyers & Paralegals can be paid a lot depending on where they work, the type of law they chose & who has employed them.

There are intense labor shortages in the medical, legal, & retail fields, most trades, and in the service industry.
However, you should line up a job BEFORE you move here.
The City of New Orleans appears to have several "city planning" positions vacant: http://www.cityofno.com/portal.aspx?portal=1&tabid=121 but I can't tell if they are current vacancies.
You should contact the City Planning Commission and ask – hey also may know of positions with other government agencies: http://www.cityofno.com/Portals/Portal52/portal.aspx
The agency that is recruiting most heavily in New Orleans is the police department: https://secure.cityofno.com/portal.aspx?portal=50&tabid=44
Good luck!
